Another day I would happily consign to the annals of history. I am blaming my bad play on jet lag and car cramp. Having travelled over 3,000ks in aircraft and 3,500+ks in a car, the body was still feeling it a week later.
The grouping for this days play were my old favourites Alan Farrell, Nigel Weir, and first time for a while Ayden Querpel. Alan and I versus the rest. I'm taking the photo.
I couldn't complain about my start as I parred the first hole. My thought was "Yee hah, he's back". Stupid me. Second hole was a disaster. Short tee shot, short chip, short putt, two more putts and I had my six for no points. The day continued with good and bad holes. Unfortunately more bad than good. When you don't score any points on five holes, your chances of a decent score are pretty much down the tubes.
The 12th hole was another disaster, but for a different reason. Hit what felt like a decent drive, slight fade took it to the right of the fairway where a bad bounce took it to the tree on the right. To me it looked like it had passed to the right of the tree, one of the others was not sure and thought it might have stopped behind the tree. When we got down there we couldn't see the ball. A closer inspection around the tree and there it was. A penalty drop required for an unplayable ball.
I had three pars on the 8th, 9th and 18th holes. It was the par on 18 that will bring me back to the course. Good drive, second onto the green, just missed the birdie, tap in par. By the 18th I was feeling pretty sad, body was aching, blood sugar on its way down. How I managed to par the 18th like that I can only put down to blind luck and maybe just a little bit of concentration. Head down, follow through!
The tale of the tape. The winner had 38 points. I was 33rd out of 36, with 27 points. A long way behind. And we lost the beer on the 15th.
My thought for the day. "Must do better!!!"
