Wednesday was horrible, rain and wind. Sick of playing in that. Thursday's forecast was much better so we decided that would be the day for an 8.30am start.
Just three of us today. Two Nigels and an Al. Off we went.
I started well, with two pars on the first two holes. Couldn't last of course and then went bogey, double bogey, bogey bogey. Then I had some good shots and had par on the eighth and ninth holes. Felt like a good nine , and it was. I had 40 shots for 20 points, 3 or four shots better than my last few efforts.
We then ran into a bit of a slow down. The more senior members than us (nine hole players) were having their monthly tournament on the back nine. To make things more interesting they were teeing off the 17th hole first then finishing on the 16th. We were discussing playing the front nine again, when I said we could do what they were doing and play slowly behind them so we would not catch up to quickly.
Off to the 17th where I put my drive on the green and had another par. Went down the 18th and had my putt lip out for four and had to settle for bogey. On to the 10th where I again put my shot onto the green on a par three, missed my birdie and tapped in for par. I had 8 points from three holes on the back nine. If I kept on like that I could shoot a really good score for nothing, except to show I could do it. So for the next six holes I tried things I would not normally do, to see if any worked. Some did most didn't. What I did manage was five one point holes and one two point hole for those six. I achieved my aim and shot an 85 for 35 points. No change for my handicap.
Why would I do that? Well, this is the time where the Clubs start having there Xmas Hamper Tournaments. For those I would like my handicap as high as possible, to give me a chance of scoring a few goodies for Xmas. This is called 'Farming your handicap'.
