Old Farts 19/10/2026
Back to Earth.
Played with the Duck Hook boys who were celebrating the 100th edition of
Duckhook. That has taken 28 years to bring up. A great milestone to achieve. A
special day to be a part of. We were put into groups of four for the day and off
we went. Our four were, Geoff Otene, John Koning, Paddy Keegan and me. It was
John and I against Geoff and Paddy. John was new to the club and we had to point
him in the right direction for each shot. He saw a lot of the course today. As
expected, we lost the beer, on the 15th hole, it could have been worse. Geoff
did well and won today's competition, we were always behind the eight ball. John
came 32nd.
Off down the first we went. Nice to start with a par. My birdie putt lipped out.
Gutted.

It was a beautiful Spring day. All the omens were good for another good day on
the course. Unfortunately yesterdays lawn mowing tightened up my back and I had
trouble hitting through the ball. Chipping and putting were difficult. I had
lost the touch I had during my last two rounds. Those were 75's, today was an
85. Nothing terrible, but as I had lost 5 shots from my last three rounds I was
now on an 11 handicap off the white tees. An 85 was now 6 over my handicap.
Tale of the tape had me with 85 shots, 74 nett, 30 points, 28 putts total. This
left me 25th out of 32.
I can't complain, my last three rounds have brought home the bacon (or Steak,
Bacon and Cheese pies). I will just have to see how I go on Wednesday.
Lastly down the 18th, nice to finally get to the end and a cold drink.
